Homemade Healthy Bread

After you realize how easy it is to make real homemade bread, you’ll find no excuse to just quickly make yourself a healthy loaf. It is such an easy recipe and can be customized with the ingredients you have at home to give it an individual taste πŸ™‚

Baking Time: 45 minutes | Preparation: 5-10 minutes | Total time: 50-60min

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 500g of whole wheat flour (or any flour you prefer)
  • 1 package of baking soda
  • salt
  • 350ml water and/or milk ( I prefer to mix: 150ml milk with 200ml sparkling water, which makes the bread more fluffy)
  • 100ml nature yoghurt

  • Optional flavour-ingredients/whatever you have at home: different nuts, seeds, gingerbread spices, sunflower seeds, grounded cinnamon spice, dried fruits such as cranberries, dates, figs, raisins, etc.
  • Optional: egg yolk to brush the bread before it goes in the oven – it gives the loaf a nice gold color πŸ™‚

Preheat the oven to 180 degress and get a baking pan ready with parchment paper.

Mix in a bowl all dry ingredients and then add the wet ones. Blend the batter until its nice and sticky. Here a little side note: The trick to getting a really soft “sandwich-like” bread is to add butter or oil to the dough. But I prefer to skip this part since I want to be it as healthy aka “low calorie” as possible haha – but sometimes I like to add 1-2 table spoons of coconut oil. πŸ™‚

Then add all the nuts, seeds or whatever you have at home to put in your bread. πŸ™‚ Slowly mix in under the dough. The dough should be nice and sticky and should get easily off the mixing bowl.

Put some flour on surface, put out the dough and knead until its smooth and elastic and form a loaf. Now brush it with the egg yolk and place it on the baking pan. My little tip here is, which I learned from my grandma, to sprinkle a little bit of water underneath the parchment paper on the tray. It helps to bake a bit more moist and gives the bread a nicer crust.

Hope you’re enjoying your bread, maybe while its still warm with some yummy jam or honey on top! πŸ™‚
